Il match è finito 13-10 all'overtime; da sottolineare la grande prestazione di "Big Ben" Roetlisberger,il QB degli Steelers che,pur concludendo la sua partita con 2 intercetti subiti, ha lanciato con una percentuale superiore al 75%,completando 33 dei 43 passaggi tentati per 363 yards,tra cui un touchdown per Santonio Holmes. Gli Steleers,sul finire dell'ultimo periodo,hanno avuto l'occasione per vincere il match, ma un fumble del wide receiver Hines Ward a 5 yards dall'area di touchdown, ha fatto sì che la partita si prolungasse fino all'overtime dove comunque Pittsburgh ha avuto la meglio grazie ad un field goal del kicker Jeff Reed. Però c'è una brutta notizia per i campioni in carica,infatti il safety Troy Polamalu,considerato il migliore della lega nel suo ruolo, ha subito un infortunio al ginocchio che lo terrà ai box per almeno 3-4 settimane.
